Why is Performance® Different?
First, the use of Host-specific bacteria helps ensure the adherence of bacteria to the intestinal lining. This will allow for the bacteria to more readily utilize feed as it passes through the digestive tract. Also, colonization of the intestinal tract helps fend off disease causing bacteria.Probiotic bacteria can out compete pathogens for nutrients and binding sites. They also can produce compounds ( organic acids and bacteriocins ) that are inhibitory to pathogenic bacteria.
Enzymes are added to help further breakdown of feeds. Bacteria have a difficult job of digesting long chains of polysaccharides, fibers, and proteins. They prefer short chained amino acids, simple sugars, and broken down fibrous strands. The enzymes help break feed down into more easily utilized forms for the bacteria.
Yeast is added to help fermentation in the guy and also to help provide essential nutrients for the bacteria to properly grow and multiply. Aspergillus oryzae is added to complete the package. Its ability to lower body temperature helps not only during normal gut activity but also during hot summer days.

- Host-Specific Live Bacteria
Beneficial bacteria are required for good digestion. Bad or pathogenic bacteria cause digestive problems. We include specific strains of particular bacteria so that they colonize, adhere and reproduce in the gut. These beneficial bacteria out-compete pathogenic bacteria, which forces the pathogenic bacteria to be shed and flushed through the digestive system.
- Yeast
Live yeast culture is used to enhance digestion. As a live yeast culture, the yeast reproduces rapidly aiding digestion and serving as “food” for the bacteria.
- Enzymes
Enzymes are an important component of our bovine and equine products. Diets for cows and horses are comprised of forage. Efficient and effective breakdown of these items require enzymes. Although animals produce enzymes, it is widely accepted that dietary supplementation contributes to better digestion and thereby more efficient feed utilization. We have selected those enzymes which each specific animal requires to aid their digestive system.
- Micro-Encapsulated
Our bacteria are freeze dried, after being fermented. After the freeze drying is completed we use a natural substance and coat, or encapsulate, our bacteria. The primary function of this microscopic coating is to insure targeted delivery of the bacteria. An additional benefit of this process is to improve product stability. While we recommend storage in a cool dry place, our products do not have to be refrigerated or stored in airtight containers.
